Mapfre Aspar quit RSV and will field Suter prototypes immediately
May 11th
Jorge Aspar Martinez has taken the dramatic decision to scrap his Moto2 project with the Italian chassis supplier RSV, switching instead to the Swiss made Suter MMX. It is an immediate decision and the two Suter prototype 600’s are in transit from Switzerland to Spain as of this moment. Taking advantage of the two weekend break between Jerez and Le Mans, the Spanish team hopes be prepared to run the new Suter chassis in France, with Friday practice beginning May 21. Martinez’ choice to ditch the RSV chassis for the Suter is no doubt quite costly, as he has to More >
Julito Simon quickest in day two of Moto2 testing
Mar 3rd
Official IRTA Moto2 testing resumed today in Valencia, Spain with 37 riders in attendance. They were greeted with the best weather the Iberian Peninsula has had to offer this off season and were able to get a good amount of dry weather running on their new prototype 600cc chassis’ and 140bhp spec-Honda CRB600RR motors. As with the 125cc test held today in Cheste, the riders completed most of their laps in the morning session and also mimicking the 125’s, the quickest time of the day was set in the morning, by a Spaniard. Continuing his amazing preseason form, Mapfre Aspar’s More >
Valencia Moto2 testing begins with Elias fastest of 37 riders
Mar 2nd
Moto2 teams had their first official IRTA test today in Valencia. This was also the first time that the twenty four teams in the intermediate category had the chance to install and test the spec-Honda CBR600RR motor that will be mandatory for the 2010 season. The engines, delivered only last night to the teams, are reportedly down on power to what HRC and Dorna were expecting. This is all due to reliability problems that Honda has experienced in private testing. Interestingly, the teams are not permitted to put more than 466 miles on the motor during this test, meaning maybe More >
RSV enter CEV with Aitchison
Feb 24th
Julian Simon, Mike Di Meglio and Karel Abraham have all been boosted by the arrival of Australian Mark Aitchison in the CEV. Aitchison, 9th in the World Supersport Championship last year, will ride a RSV Moto2 machine in the Spanish Championship. Having much more experience of a four-stroke bike compared to Simon, Di Meglio and Abraham, he will help the Italian factory develop their Moto2 prototype for the top level teams of Mapfre Aspar and Cardion AB Racing in the world championship. With Suter having so many riders on their 600cc bike, RSV is looking to field more of their More >
Moto2 testing times = slow
Feb 23rd
Tom Luthi (SWI), Interwetten Suter
Sorry to all the blog followers, I have been out of town doing some skiing in Colorado. While I was away, the Moto2 test ended in Montmelo with very little dry running. The times were a lot slower than I was expecting, with the 125cc machines getting close to the fastest lap times of the 600cc prototypes. Granted, the race-ready Honda motors have not yet been delivered, but none the less the fastest Moto2 lap times (albeit unofficial) were only about 3 seconds faster than Pol Espargaro’s quick time on his Derbi 125. The unofficial timing More >
Simon “calm” on Aprilia withdrawl from Moto2
Dec 3rd
Speaking to Spanish radio today, Julito Simon believes his Aspar team will be able to handle the situation that Aprilia have put them in after the shock withdraw of the Italian factory from Moto2. He said, “One must be calm because the Aspar team is a winning team”. The Jorge Martinez team is due to run the 2008 125 champion Mike Di Meglio and Simon, the 2009 125 champion. They recently tested a BQR Moto2 600 which only fueled the speculation that Aprilia was in fact going to pull out of the inaugural Moto2 champioship in 2010. Also left without a More >
