Mapfre Aspar quit RSV and will field Suter prototypes immediately

Jorge Aspar Martinez has taken the dramatic decision to scrap his Moto2 project with the Italian chassis supplier RSV, switching instead to the Swiss made Suter MMX. It is an immediate decision and the two Suter prototype 600’s are in transit from Switzerland to Spain as of this moment. The past couple days have seen us reflect on another 125cc test in Spain. Once again, there was not a lot to report on as the weather played havoc to all three days, like it did in Valencia and to a host of private testing throughout the winter. Four-time motorcycle world champion, Jorge “Aspar” Martinez, has been honored by the Circuito de Jerez. It was announced that the bit of track after the dry-sack corner will be named for the legendary Aspar Martinez. Aspar won the 1986, 1987 and 1988 80cc world championships and the 1988 125cc championship. Gone are the days of a rider winning two different championships in one season. Always a master of the smaller machinery, Martinez emerged victorious in 37 races and stood on the podium 61 times.
In more recent times Aspar has focused his attention on running the Banjaca 125cc team and Mapfre 250cc team. More >
