2011, the end of two-stroke racing?

It appears that the 125cc World Championship class will continue with two-stroke motors until the end of the 2011 season. In Qatar, Carmelo Ezpeleta said that after this season and into the next, there will be discussions on the matter. It is expected that in 2012 the 125cc category will change to a four-stroke engine category with technology that is derived from dirt bikes. The Red Bull Ajo Derbi 125RSA of Marc Marquez
The second of three days of official 125cc ended today in Cheste. Testing has been very hit or miss this offseason in Spain, but luckily today the weather held off so the teams and riders could get some productive work in. There were two sessions held today and with track conditions being a little warmer in the morning, most riders completed more mileage in the first session. Pol Espargaro dominates first day of 125cc testing

The 125cc riders joined the Moto2 paddock for their official test today in Valencia. On a blustery Spanish day, Pol Espargaro led the way as he circulated the Ricardo Tormo Circuit over one second faster than his nearest rival, Marc Marquez. This is an immense gap in the 125 class and is quicker than Julian Simon’s pole time from last season. Espargaro wants an all Catalan title

Pol Espargaro has come out in a recent interview and said that it would be his life’s dream to win a championship with the Catalan motorbike brand, Derbi. The 18 year-old 125cc rider enters his fourth full season in the 125cc world championship and will be looking to clinch his first world title this year. It will be his third complete season on the Spanish made Derbi and according to Pol; it is the bike he wants. Montmelo will host test February 17-19

The lower cylinder categories will have a winter test at the Circuit de Catalunya, running February 17-19. This news comes from the Spanish website MotoCuatro, but as of the now the Circuit de Catalunya has yet to confirm the test on their website, unlike the Formula 1 test later in the month. According to MotoCuatro the test has been organized by the Catalan Bainet Racing Team, the factory Derbi squad that runs Pol Espargaro and Efren Vazquez in the 125cc class. Also present at the preseason test will be the favorites in the 125cc title hunt: Bradley Smith (Aspar), Nico Terol (Aspar), and Marc Marquez (Ajo). More >
Marc Marquez to Ajo Racing for 2010

The hottest property these days in the 125cc class, the young and hugely talented Marc Marquez is looking to enter the 2010 125cc championship with the 2008 championship winning team of Ajo Racing. The Finnish squad has not been told whether or not they will have Derbi’s or Aprilia’s in their garage next year, but regardless, Marquez will be out of KTM and riding for the Piaggio Group.
