Mapfre Aspar quit RSV and will field Suter prototypes immediately

Jorge Aspar Martinez has taken the dramatic decision to scrap his Moto2 project with the Italian chassis supplier RSV, switching instead to the Swiss made Suter MMX. It is an immediate decision and the two Suter prototype 600’s are in transit from Switzerland to Spain as of this moment. The Mapfre Aspar team reveal Moto2 RSV bike

Today in Madrid, Jorge Aspar Martinez officially launched his Moto2 team that he will try to win the first ever 600cc world championship with. Riders Mike Di Meglio and Julito Simon were both present with Aspar as they pulled back the covers on the Italian made RSV chassis the duo will use in the 2010 Moto2 season after the shock withdraw of long term partner Aprilia. Once again, Spanish insurance giant Mapfre will be the title sponsor of the team. Aspar’s MotoGP livery released

Today was the official presentation of the rookie Aspar MotoGP program. The squad led by Jorge Martinez will be officially known as Paginas Amarillas Aspar Team and will use a satellite Ducati Desmosedici GP10. Hector Barbera, second in the 250cc championship last year will ride for the Valencian team. The Spaniard was born in Valencia, like Martinez, making for an all Valencian project in their inaugural year at the premier class level. To be expected, the bike livery is very yellow and has a striking resemblance to the 2010 Renault F1 car in my opinion.

Julito Simon quickest in day two of Moto2 testing

Official IRTA Moto2 testing resumed today in Valencia, Spain with 37 riders in attendance. They were greeted with the best weather the Iberian Peninsula has had to offer this off season and were able to get a good amount of dry weather running on their new prototype 600cc chassis’ and 140bhp spec-Honda CRB600RR motors. The second of three days of official 125cc ended today in Cheste. Testing has been very hit or miss this offseason in Spain, but luckily today the weather held off so the teams and riders could get some productive work in. There were two sessions held today and with track conditions being a little warmer in the morning, most riders completed more mileage in the first session. Anybody paying attention to testing today will realize that Spanish sensation Nico Terol has switch from his familiar number 18 to number 40 for the 2010 125cc season. The rainbow colored 40 will be present on Jorge Martinez’s 125 Bancaja Aspar Aprilia and Hector Barbera’s Paginas Amarillas Aspar Ducati. It is not because both riders enjoy the multi-colored no.40 on their machines, but rather the fact that the Los40 Principales radio station is now a minor sponsor of the Aspar team. Valencia Moto2 testing begins with Elias fastest of 37 riders

Moto2 teams had their first official IRTA test today in Valencia. This was also the first time that the twenty four teams in the intermediate category had the chance to install and test the spec-Honda CBR600RR motor that will be mandatory for the 2010 season. The engines, delivered only last night to the teams, are reportedly down on power to what HRC and Dorna were expecting. This is all due to reliability problems that Honda has experienced in private testing.
